No, I'm not talking about Stull, but Forest Park NY, which is supposedly a real gateway to hell, and is considered one of the most haunted places on the planet.

As a side note, there is also a haunted cemetery outdside of Chicago:

Has anyone visited either?

Re: Gateway To Hell
04/13
An interesting story sighted in the Troy Record (Oct.27,1996, pp.E1,4) tells of a couple who "parked" :) in the cemetery in the 1940's or 50's. The man got out of the car to investigate a strange noise, and a little while later the woman heard scraping on the roof of the car. Police arrived at the scene and told the girl to get out of the car and run, and not to look back. Of course she did, only to see that the scraping sound was coming from her companion's feet scraping against the roof of the car. He had been dangling from a tree above.
Another story (although it's one that has been told in many towns), is that of the vanishing hitchhiker. According to the same Troy Record article, a Troy taxi cab driver told this story to Avril Park historian Judy Rowe. It is the tale of a young girl dressed in party clothes whom he picked up at Emma Willard School one night. She needed a ride home and directed the cabbie up Pinewoods Avenue, but upon reaching Forest Park Cemetery, the young girl vanished.
(from the last Forest link above)
Someone ought to tell the author that the "scratching on the car roof" is another typical urban legend, in addition to the hitchhiker story. -

Re: Gateway To Hell
04/13Yeah, I've heard the "car roof" one too.
Although, I love reading about these places. I wonder why the Forest Park is so haunted...It would've been cool to hear some EVPs from there, since the writer said the spirits are turbulent and malicious; I'd like to know what their deal is.

Re: Gateway To Hell
12/05I used to host a website about Forest Park when I was at school at the local university, RPI. In fact, that third link appears to have borrowed some text from my old site. I have never seen a ghost there or anywhere else for that matter. Yes, many of the stories people shared were common urban legends, but people will believe what they want to believe. There were some well-to-do individuals buried at Forest Park, and both the families and the town of Brunswick would like the stories put to rest. The town petitioned RPI to have my site removed (Gateways to Hell aren't good for the property value).
Everyone I ever brought was pretty spooked. Most did not want to stay more than 10 minutes before they insisted on leaving. The only moment I actually was a little scared was one night when I was out walking around the back behind the mausoleum with some friends. We had rounded the bend and were heading back towards the road when ahead of us there was a loud "crack" sound the was like a three inch thick dead tree branch being snapped like a trig. Here we are in an abandoned cemetery at night, and I'm well aware that I have more to fear from the living than the dead... and we've got someone or something blocking our exit path. We froze and listened, and then all sighed with relief when a very large owl took flight and passed across the rising full moon! -

Re: Gateway To Hell
12/10I went into all three sites listed and got an icy cold chill all around me, mind you, in Australia we are sitting in temperatures of 27-47 degrees CELCIUS right now.
I see three men, one has a top hat and a black suit on with awhite shirt and a ribbon tie circa late 1800s. He uses a walking stick and has a gold fob watch. He screams "Get out, get out, how dare you disturb my resting place". He is with two men, they are lower class, possibly his servants.
This old man with the can made his money from the goldfields of California and the railroads. He smokes cigars........
One of the poorer men has a shovel....I feel he was a sexton (grave digger) at the cemetery. He uses them to scare off people.
If you want to put these stories to rest re the couple in the car and other stories, go to the local library and research the approximate time it allegedly happened and read the newspaper article and police records on it. I did this for a book I am co writing on hauntings in an Australian city. I actually solved around 10 paranormal related myths that had been floating around since 1885 onwards. From one story comes a magnitude of constantly changing lies throughout time. Research these stories and prove them wrong.
I feel this cemetery is haunted but not a gateway to hell. Just some rich old farts who hate intruders on their resting place trying to rob their coffins. I believe they may have been buried with some of their riches with them. -

Re: Gateway To Hell
12/11EOBK, for some reason ur monkey icon scared the ba-jeezes out of me... Oh yea, the Hell gateway thing is interesting too. Urban legends are everywhere. Thats why the media sucks, they dont investigate correctly and get biased bulshit written damn, hence why I dropped out of the journalism program. But it makes for some nice stories.
