Anyone have a sure way of getting rid of a ghost, or entity, from an area? Also, how does one tell if they are dealing with a ghost, or something else -- a demon, PK ability, etc?
Thank in advance!

Re: How to: get rid of a ghost?
Thu, March 23, 2006 - 9:56 AMHave you tried talking to it? What is it doing that is so distressing? You don't necessarily have to get rid of it you know.
I have three ghosts in my house and only the attic ghost is objectionable (sometimes). I don't get rid of them because they were here before me, so I try to be fair to their "rights" too. Plus, if I was unsuccessful with the attic ghost, I think the $hit would really hit the fan. :-/
However...
One of the best ways to get rid of an entity is to do a cleansing of the house. This starts at a complete physical cleaning of the entire area -floors, walls, furniture, closets, every room, etc, while concentrating on the act of removing any spirit or negativity. Open all the windows and doors. Use lemon water or water with a little salt to wipe down everything to cleanse it spiritually. Then burn some sage in a fire proof dish. Either place this in the most effected room or walk through every room of the house saying or concentrating on removing any negativity or spirits. When you are done, close up all the windows and doors. You can seal them with protective charms to ensure whatever it was doesn't get back in. Religious symbols work or a line of salt or you could just tie a bunch of grass knots or plant holy (or something prickly... deters burglars too! heh) outside your windows. -

Re: How to: get rid of a ghost?
Mon, December 31, 2007 - 2:41 PMok i have no idea how to start a new thread. First of all i just joined up for one reason . i have a ghost that has been following me seince i was little it followed me from my grandmothers house where i stayed alot to my parrents house to my apartment now. i can only see it out of the corner of my eyes in darkness looking at me. its just a figure not really clear and my girl friend has seen it also . so i know its not my imagination. when i was a young boy it used to hide in my closet and i would see a smokey fog over the closet. now we started seeing it in my daughters room, her room looks kind of foggy from the outside. and seems to follow us into ourbedroom and stay between the halway and closet areas. it also has followed me to a friends house when i stayed there. my daughter misteriously wakes up right when im going to bed and im dead tired. i hear noises throughout the night and i am paranoid that someone is trying to break in because i dont live in the best neighborhood. so i am not getting alot of sleep. I think this "thing" is bad because when i was in middle school i woke up to the foggy smoke infront of my face and i could feel hands around my throat, and suddenly it just went away. but this has been following me for as long as i can remember. i am of christian faith and i dont believe in church , my grandmother is extreamly christian and she also has seen the "thing" but her house is where this followed me from. i just wanna get rid of it. btw is sage a pagan ritual or something? -

The Smudging Ceremony
By Adrienne Borden and Steve Coyote
Our Native elders have taught us that before a person can be healed or heal another, one must be cleansed of any bad feelings, negative thoughts, bad spirits or negative energy - cleansed both physically and spiritually. This helps the healing to come through in a clear way, without being distorted or sidetracked by negative "stuff" in either the healer or the client. The elders say that all ceremonies, tribal or private, must be entered into with a good heart so that we can pray, sing, and walk in a sacred manner, and be helped by the spirits to enter the sacred realm.
Native people throughout the world use herbs to accomplish this. One common ceremony is to burn certain herbs, take the smoke in one's hands and rub or brush it over the body. Today this is commonly called "smudging." In Western North America the three plants most frequently used in smudging are sage, cedar, and sweetgrass.
Sage
There are many varieties of sage, and most have been used in smudging. The botanical name for "true" sage is Salvia (e.g. Salvia officinalis, Garden Sage, or Salvia apiana, White Sage). It is interesting to note that Salvia comes from the Latin root salvare, which means "to heal." There are also varieties of sage which are of a species separate from Salvin Artemusia. Included here are sagebrush (e.g. Artemisia californica) and mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris). We have seen both Salvia and Artemisia sub-species used in smudging.
Sage is burned in smudging ceremonies to drive out bad spirits, feelings, or influences, and also to keep bad spirits from entering the area where a ceremony takes place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
smudging is a good place to start ~ generally helpful, but if this is some kind of family ghost (sometimes they can be 'inherited') I doubt this will resolve the issue, but it may make it easier to figure out how to do that, eventually
love all-ways,
Re: How to: get rid of a ghost?
Thu, March 23, 2006 - 10:13 AMSage really does help a lot with cleansing. I have just asked sometimes and the ghosts will go away. There was the ghost of a little girl (maybe 5ish) at the last place I used to live. She thought it was hysterical to scare you. No problem except when she did it to my kids (2 and 4 at the time) She wasn't being mean, she just thought it was funny, so I talked to her and told her that it wasn't nice to scare the other little kids because she wouldn't like to be scared like that. After that, she stopped with my kids and i didn't mind the other times because she was just being a kid (that and it really just amused me to see my friends get kinda freaked out walking down her favorite pathway for no "obvious" reason). Often, talking to them really helps. I didn't ask her to leave because it was her home. I felt I had no right.
As far as I know, I have only ever dealt with ghosts, no real negative evergy ever so I have no more advice to offer. -
Tue, March 28, 2006 - 5:46 PMSmudging with sage, starting from the back of the house moving to and open door ...Make sure you get closets, basements and attics. I also like to use frankincense oil & water in a spray bottle w/ the sage smudge. Make sure you either say of think (all good spirits, angles and guardians are welcome to stay).
Re: How to: get rid of a ghost?
Thu, March 23, 2006 - 11:16 AMI think that if you were dealing with a negative entity or demon, you would probably have a pretty good idea already. I think it is theorized that they are usually a bit stronger than your typical spirit, and can interact with people... even cause physical harm (striking or shoving, etc.) Basically a bit beyond your typical mischief. I agree that a good cleansing with sage could help... but if you do happen to have a more malignant entity in your home, you might want to consider finding a demonologist or priest in your area and having a cleansing done. (I'm not a religious person, myself, but if I were dealing with something like that I would give it a try.)
If you just happen to have a mischievous spirit, I agree with what others have already said... just try talking to it and asking it to stop behaving in whatever way it is that is scaring you. I haven't ever had to do it myself, but I have heard others have pretty good success this way. What kind of activity are you experiencing? -
Re: How to: get rid of a ghost?
Thu, March 23, 2006 - 2:30 PMTry just telling them that they're dead and they need to move on. That's what Sylvia Browne suggests all the time, and it worked with my ghost. Sometimes the answer really is very simple.
Re: How to: get rid of a ghost?
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 7:19 AMDefinitely use sea salt. You can put it around the house - under the beds, corners, window sills and doorways. It has never tried to harm you but the one time? Just wondering...it may be trying to get your attention.
Anyway, sea salt helps a lot.
Re: How to: get rid of a ghost?
Wed, April 19, 2006 - 5:57 PMSpirits of people are kind entities, and are nothing to worry about, but anything aggressive is no doubt a demon, and should be gotten rid of immediately. I suggest a priest, especially a Mormon one, to help out with that ( a blessing or something). I also think that praying would help.
